Mitchell Mergen, P.E.

Stockwell Engineers

Project Manager, EVM

Mitch is a registered professional engineer with 14 years of experience managing and designing municipal projects within the State of South Dakota.

Mitch graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota in 2003. Upon graduating he began his career at Stockwell Engineers working on various municipal projects and achieved his professional license. Over the course of his career, Mitch has acted as the lead design engineer and project manager for municipal projects varying in scale and complexity.

Mitch has earned his reputation as a strong design professional credited with lead roles in significant projects within the Sioux Falls area. Notable projects include the reconstruction of 6th Street and 8th Street downtown corridors of Sioux Falls, design and oversight of Hartford’s 500,000 gallon water tower, and various drainage, sewer and water projects throughout the area. Over the years, Mitch has grown in his capacity to lead and design projects and acts predominantly as a project manager overseeing numerous projects within the region.

As a project manager, Mitch has a unique ability to draw on his experience as a design engineer and lead multifaceted projects toward a successful completion. The 41st Street reconstruction project between Sertoma Avenue and Ellis Road in Sioux Falls is an example of Mitch’s abilities. The 41st Street project was a $9 Million improvements project in which Mitch managed the design team. Most recently, Mitch has acted as a the lead engineer and project manager for the Terry Avenue and 43rd Street project in Sioux Falls. This $10 million project involved the design and construction of an underground detention facility and surrounding infrastructure. The underground detention facility is one of the largest of it’s kind, required significant drainage modeling and is a pinnacle of Mitch’s outstanding

leadership and design creativity. The project is in its final stages of construction with Mitch currently leading Stockwell’s construction administration team.

Mitch also draws experience from his role as a city engineer for several surrounding municipalities. He is currently the acting City Engineer for the City of Hartford and the City of Lennox. Acting as City Engineer gives Mitch a unique perspective into the internal workings of city government and is able to understand and better aid clients in their decisions. Mitch enjoys working with his clients to devise new ways to manage and monitor projects. Mitch’s future goals include studying project management, and becoming project management certified so he can continue helping clients reach their goals.
